Learning Club Programs
After-school tutoring
The Learning Club's primary program has been its after-school tutoring program. We tutor students at six different sites, primarily public housing locations, around Kansas City, KS. What makes our after-school program unique is the one-on-one tutoring children get for free thanks to many generous volunteer tutors.
In-school tutoring
Currently we have four in-school reading programs at Silver City, New Chelsea, Whittier and New Stanley elementary schools. Volunteers come for 1.5 hours once a week, to read with struggling readers. Each volunteer would read with 3 different students, for 25 minutes apiece.
Internship
The Learning Club Internship is a formational training program for high school students in Kansas City, KS who are interested in exploring teaching as a profession. They receive training in many areas related to teaching, self-growth, and working with children. As part of this program the interns tutor younger students in our after-school program. Transportation is provided from local high schools to the Learning Club sites and they receive a stipend.
