Welcome to the Learning Club! We're glad you're here.
Since 2002, Learning Club has provided a positive, pivotal education experience for the children in Kansas City who need it most.
Our Unique Approach
The majority of Learning Club Students live in public housing communities where the annual median income is less than $14,000. We know that kids can’t learn when their basic needs aren’t being met – so we try to remove as many barriers to learning as possible. We are on doorsteps, in schools, and in living rooms advocating for our students and providing the educational and social-emotional support they need most. We provide real help in real time, making sure children are fed, clothed, and cared for, so they can learn and grow at Learning Club.
Each week, more than 400 students are impacted by Learning Club’s programs:
After-School Tutoring & Mentorship
Learning Club operates after-school tutoring programs in public housing community centers and places where neighbors gather to eliminate barriers such as transportation and parent involvement. All students in K-12 are welcome, and we work to achieve one-to-one mentorships that extend year after year.
In-School Reading Intervention
Learning Club works with local schools to provide one-on-one reading programs that help students learn to love reading while building their literacy skills. We give teachers more time with fewer students in their classrooms, allowing them space to focus on what they do best while we provide much-needed reading support.
Middle School Groups
Middle School students have unique needs, and we recognize the demand for positive, supportive peer interactions at this age. Learning Club staff lead lessons and activities that help middle school students grow. We provide a full meal and wraparound services to uplift students during this challenging time of their lives.
High School Internship and Scholarships
Learning Club is growing our own teachers right here in Kansas City. Our High School Internship program provides students with training and professional development as well as a stipend and scholarship opportunities. Then, interns give back by tutoring and mentoring a younger students in our after-school program.
Summer Programs
We work to provide equitable access to education for students who are often unable to access other programs due to transportation, language barriers, or a lack of resources. Through individualized attention, we can go the extra mile to help families meet their needs during the school year, summer, and beyond.
Every week, Learning Club serves the hardest-to-reach students in KCK – throughout the school year and all summer long. How will you join us?
